Uthaka Recycling and Cleaning operates under the auspices of Operation Snowdrop (a non-profit organisation founded by Ina McDonald in Wakkerstroom).
Operation Snowdrop (registration number 067363) works with the community on practical and innovative means to rise up from poverty in a way that benefits them as an individual as well as benefits the community as a whole.
How we manage to deliver the service:
We sell our recycling to a buyer from Piet Retief. The income is very little – about R600 every 2 months or so. The rest of our income comes from donations as well as fundraising projects. We support three local people with an income from the project.
Donations:
All donations are very welcome and will help us so much!
We Recycle:
- Cardboard
- Paper
- Plastic (P01, 02, 04, 05)
- Milk & Juice cartons
- Cans & Tins
- Washed & Dried recyclables
We can’t recycle:
- Sweet wrappers
- Chips Packets
- Till slips
- Polystyrene
- Aluminium foil
Please note: Glass is recycled by Cynthia Shabalala and should not be dropped at the Beehive, but rather at Shabalala Glass Recycling in Van Der Schyff Street.
