Wetlands Game Lodge – 7,2 km on Piet Retief Road
Possibly the best place for fly fishing, there are 4 large clean dams in this picturesque valley. There is a daily rod fee as well as a restaurant and bar. Best for Rainbow and Brown Trout. Contact 072 671 4558.
OuHout Picnic and Braai site 13 km on Piet Retief Road
This is a beautiful venue with a lovely dam, with abundant Trout at times. However, Otters do prevail. There is a daily fee. Contact Hanlie Uys 084 611 0565.
Zaaihoek Dam – 15 km on Newcastle Road
This is a large dam belonging to DWAF and Eskom. Best fishing areas are along the bank close to the dam wall. Bass, Yellowfish, Carp and Barbel.
Martins Dam – 1,5 km on Piet Retief Road
Regrettably the ablutions and picnic areas are not in a good condition with this Municipality-run dam. It’s best to fish from the North Side of the dam and enter via the Airfield. It is however a clean water dam.
Private farm dams
Best to engage with farmers, many of these dams have Bass, and it is possible that you are required to fish on a catch-and-release basis.
