Matilda, a child of the Sixties, was raised in the unspoilt, hot and humid Lowveld (now Limpopo). To create has always been a driving force in her life. She started training as a potter in 1982 with numerous studios and ran a factory producing bonsai bowls in the 1990’s. Sculpting and functional art however, proved to be more creatively satisfying and she now applies herself to interpreting her love for nature and her fascination with the human psyche.
George is a self taught artist who believes the ordinary is extraordinary. He pays homage to that which he sees around him through solid craftsmanship and respect for the material. Coming from an engineering background, he sees his versatility as one of his great advantages which allows him to work in multiple mediums, mostly in wood, but lately also in stone and clay.
In collaboration with Matilda, George is venturing more into the artistic side of things as an extension to his more functional work.
Matilda and George Angus live on the farm Tafelkop near Wakkerstroom. They run The Restory Retreat Centre and live and work from a creation centered spirituality.
Their work is available directly from the artists and at the following outlets:
- Art Gallery, Newcastle
- Golden Goose Artistry, Brooklyn, Woodlands and Southdowns
- Biani’s Leatherworks, Wakkerstroom
