Jantjies Hoek, Driefontein and Amersfoort Rd Return – 66 km
A very scenic but hilly route that goes up and over Jantjieshoek pass and returns via the Driefontein Rd and the Amersfoort Rd and back into town.
Leaving the town head out to the Amersfoort Rd and, after 3.2kms from the start, turn right onto the Airport loop road. Follow this track until it intersects the Dirkiesdorp gravel road at the base of Jantjieshoek pass. Turn left up the pass.
Follow this road up and over the pass and at about the 29km mark (from the start), turn left (Driefontein).
Ride for 1.6kms along this road and turn left again. This is the lowest point and halfway point for the start of the return leg. The route undulates and climbs for the next 15kms to a T-junction (45.5kms) ; turn left towards Wakkerstroom.
After 12kms (57kms from the start) the road intersects the Amersfoort rd. Turn left and head back towards town.
Note : This route has a fair amount of climbing and can made challenging by the weather. Take sufficient water and food.
This route can be done in reverse (it might even be better) and the long climb at the end slow the pace down so that you can enjoy the views even better.
