take the route towards Utrecht. At 5.7kms from the start, turn left along the Piet Retief Rd. Follow this road as it goes down into a valley and up the other side. The ride will take you up a long uphill past the informal settlement up to the Paulpietersburg turnoff which is to the left. It passes a high point of around 2000m and goes down the other side to cross a river at the bottom. Just after the river turn off on the road leading off to the left (15km from the start). This road runs along the bottom of a valley for 8kms and meets the Groenvlei / Wakkerstroom road.
Turn right and head back to Wakkerstroom 15kms away. There are only 2 climbs on this stretch with the main one being the climb back up over Ossewa Kop. The 4km downhill all the way back into town makes the climb worthwhile.
