Wendy Watson will be giving a presentation on the Truth and Reconciliation Commission after dinner on 9 April.
She will speak on the establishment of the commission, its work within the three committees over the five year period of operations, what she feels was achieved, and what could have been done differently.
She will share her personal experience of how she became involved in the Commission as Manager off the KwaZulu Natal and Free State offices.
These offices, as can be anticipated, collected more victim statements than all three of the other offices (Cape Town, Johannesburg and Port Elizabeth) together, and had particular challenges due to the IFP/ANC conflict, including the so called “third force” activities in the region.
These two offices were also the only office not to experience labour relations challenges which led to work stoppages in other areas.
