Gerrit is busy pursuing a Master’s degree in Perfoming Arts specialising in Choral Conducting. He has received Master classes from various local and international choral conducting clinicians such as Sanna Salminen (Finland), Brian O’Connell (USA), André van der Merwe (RSA), Kåre Hanken (Norway), Nicol Matt (Germany) and Simon Carrington (Italy).
Choral singing is an ever growing phenomenon in South Africa and as choir conductors we have a huge responsibility to make sure we help with the development of our art and at the same time still enrich the lives of the people we work with. This workshop will attempt to cover certain important areas in being a successful conductor at school level in South Africa.
Aiming at answering questions like what are we as choral conductors actually teaching our students? Gerrit has compiled a concise workshop, which will help the young and upcoming conductor in South Africa’s school context.
