Vivace Guitar Duo – Gerrit Roos & Jonathan Moolman (Guitars)
Vivace Guitar Duo is Gerrit Roos and Jonathan Moolman, two classical guitar performers located in Pretoria. Gerrit and Jonathan both enrolled for the BMus course at The University of Pretoria in 2004 and started performing as a guitar duo in 2006. They both have completed their Masters degrees in guitar performance at the University of Pretoria under the steady guidance of Abri Jordaan, as well as UNISA licentiates in music.
Gerrit and Jonathan have been fortunate to meet and have master classes with leading classical guitarists from all over the world such as Eduardo Fernandez, Victor Villadangos, Marco Tamayo and Anabel Montesinos, Han Jonkers, Andrea Vetoretti, The Zagreb guitar quartet, The Groningen guitar duo and The Amsterdam guitar trio.
Vivace’s repertoire consists of classics from the traditional guitar repertoire and arrangements of popular contemporary music as well as original works. From Bach transcriptions and Beatles arrangements, to original works composed for the classical guitar Vivace Guitar Duo provides an excitingly diverse collection of music.
Gerrit and Jonathan have performed all over South Africa. They have also had the pleasure to share the stage with the Salon Music Ensemble and the Uruguayan guitar duo Duo Siqueira-Lima. Vivace has also performed at the KKNK Klassique and was praised for their transcriptions and original compositions. Vivace’s debut album Two Friends Twelve Strings was released in 2011 and can be heard on Classic fm and Fine Music Radio, where it was made CD of the week.
The instruments used by Vivace Guitar Duo are custom made by Hans van den Berg. His instruments prove to have superb sound and tone production and exquisite build quality to match that of any international builder.
