The Wakkerstroom congregation is rich in history, our heritage is phenomenal and our church building is architecturally unique. Of special interest in the Church is the organ, built in the early 1900’s. It is unique in that it is a pneumatic action organ which works by air pressure, not relying on electricity, as the later models do.
Church Services
Wakkerstroom offers a welcoming spiritual community with a variety of church denominations and services available to visitors and residents alike. These gatherings not only provide spiritual enrichment but also an opportunity to be part of the warm, close-knit community that Wakkerstroom is known for.

St Joseph’s Catholic Church
Constructed on land donated by Joliffe for a Union Church it was one of the first churches in Wakkerstroom to begin missionary work in Wakkerstroom. The foundation was laid by Dirk Cornelius Uys the Voortrekker and founder of the town Wakkerstroom in 1904. It has a total immersion baptismal font underneath the altar, and a beautiful stained-glass window behind the altar.
St Mark’s Anglican Church
Although built in 1880, the church was only consecrated in 1890 by Reverend H Sadler, the first Vicar. It has the largest stained glass window in the Anglican Diocese of the Highveld, and there are many lovely stories associated with the return of first, a Brass Lectern, and then the Bell Tower. The Church is a Historical Monument now privately owned and recently lovingly renovated.
