History Circa 1880

A simple structure, erected with wood and corrugated iron. Of interest are the Victorian air ventilators, common in those days. In the 1920’s the building was used as the bioscope. A generator provided lights and powered the operating equipment. Shows were held weekly, on a Saturday.

The hall was also used at this time by the local town council for rate payers meetings. In the 1950’s, the building was used as a motor dealership, and fuel was sold from bowsers on the front roadside of the building. After a fire destroyed the southern part, the building remained vacant.

In the 2000’s, the building was used to house the goats of Theuns de Bruin, who owned the Honeymoon Valley cheese shop, next door. As this stage, the building was owned by Solly Chotia. In 2016, he sold the building to attorney Ina McDonald, who renovated it.

The walls are lined with chromodek, creating division between the WTA Info Centre, and art gallery and shop. The hall is used for community events, music festival performances, movies and functions. Ina runs a charity shop called Snowdrop, from these premises.

The building had been so carefully renovated that it retained its heritage status.
